We're fundraising for CALM in memory of Turan Duncan
This October, my family and I are walking against suicide.
On 6th January 2020 our lives changed forever when my cousin, Turan, took his own life. Like so many others, his battle against mental health was a silent one but it didn't need to be.
Let's speak up about mental health, let's normalise talking about our feelings and let's smash the silence.
We're taking on the Lost Hours Walk to deal with grief differently and defiantly, and to remember our Turan and others who have been lost to suicide.
On average, 125 people take their own lives every week in the UK.
75% of people who take their own lives are not known to mental health services or have not been in touch with mental health services within the last year.
135 people are directly affected by every suicide.
We’re coming together across the country to send a message that that’s not ok. We’re taking to the streets, parks, pavements, public footpaths and promenades to walk against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably.
Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM’s free, anonymous and confidential helpline and webchat are there for anyone who needs support. They’re open from 5pm-midnight every day. Just £8 is enough to fund a professionally-trained helpline worker to answer a call that could save a life. Your support will help fund CALM’s life-saving services when they’re needed most.
