Steve Mears

I'm fundraising for CALM

I’m walking against suicide.

This October I'm taking on the Lost Hours Walk to deal with grief differently and defiantly, and to remember our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, partners and friends lost to suicide.

I will be doing 2 walks with my team Football Fans United (Against Suicide). On 24th Oct, we will be walking 20 miles across London taking in 6 Football Grounds on route (Wembley, QPR, Fulham, AFC Wimbledon, Tooting & Mitcham and Crystal Palace).

Then on 8th November we will be walking from Worthing FC to Brighton and Hove Albion & back.

Here’s why:
On average, 125 people take their own lives every week in the UK.

75% of people who take their own lives are not known to mental health services or have not been in touch with mental health services within the last year.

135 people are directly affected by every suicide.

We’re coming together across the country to send a message that that’s not ok. We’re taking to the streets, parks, pavements, public footpaths and promenades to walk against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably.

Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM’s free, anonymous and confidential helpline and webchat are there for anyone who needs support. They’re open from 5pm-midnight every day. Just £8 is enough to fund a professionally-trained helpline worker to answer a call that could save a life. Your support will help fund CALM’s life-saving services when they’re needed most.

You can join my team or donate to my walk below.
