I'm fundraising for CALM

I’m walking against suicide.

This October I'm taking on the Lost Hours Walk to deal with grief differently and defiantly, and to remember our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, partners and friends lost to suicide.

Here’s why:

On average, 125 people take their own lives every week in the UK.

75% of people who take their own lives are not known to mental health services or have not been in touch with mental health services within the last year.

135 people are directly affected by every suicide.

We’re coming together across the country to send a message that that’s not ok. We’re taking to the streets, parks, pavements, public footpaths and promenades to walk against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably.

Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM’s free, anonymous and confidential helpline and webchat are there for anyone who needs support. They’re open from 5pm-midnight every day. Just £8 is enough to fund a professionally-trained helpline worker to answer a call that could save a life. Your support will help fund CALM’s life-saving services when they’re needed most.

My Updates

We did it! 10 miles in 4 hours.

Monday 12th Oct
Thanks for everyone who joined in all the way. Part of the way. Those who cheered us on and clapped at the end. Mostly thankyou to all of your donations. The weather was kind. The day was great. Tesco gave us free lunch deals half way lunchtime. So pleased to see we are over the £1000 and still raising. Hope we made you proud Sam if you were watching from above. Love and miss you forever. 💕

Cheer us on..

Tuesday 15th Sep
We have planned a 10 mile route around Tiverton. Walking pass some of the places Sam spent alot of time at growing up. Going to Schools, College, Clubs, Parks and friends houses. We are doing this Sunday 11th October. 10am from Sam's tree and resting place. Fingers crossed for a dry day!

A happy day ❤

Wednesday 5th Aug
Myself and Sam. I was so proud and happy for him. 🎓

Hope this makes one person think twice.

Tuesday 4th Aug
My son Sam took his own life last October. He was 24 years old. He had a good job, nice family, really good mates. He started struggling with workload. His relationship broke down. He was drinking to much. After they parted he was lonely and his wage couldn't cover all his living expenses. He was going to food banks! Debts were mounting. He kept all this to himself because  he felt ashamed. His metal health suffered. He had gone to GP and had tried to help himself but he just couldn't see any light at the end of the tunnel. He broke down that night while staying with us. He told me everything. We offered to help him with money and support. Which made him feel worse. He said he hated himself he didn't want to feel like he did anymore. He thought he had let us down. He was a burden. I told him he was just unwell and things would and could get better. Give it time. I was proud of him I loved him. I wanted to help him get better. That night after we went to bed he took his own life. I was shocked to find him in the morning. My world fell apart iin a second. Now with hindsight I think he told me all that before instead of leaving a note. He had already decided that was the best way out. I never ever thought he was sucidal. It has left us his family and friends with a broken heart for life. Always wishing he had given us chance to help. If only he could of seen himself though our eyes. It fills me with sadness every day. I miss his cheeky face and sense of humour making me laugh. 😪

At some point in our lives its fair to say we all suffer from mental health issues .What happened to Sam and it's affect on your family was heartbreaking .By raising awareness of these issues it will only go to help others who may be suffering. We are all behind you 100%

Having never know Sam I truly have no idea what you have lost but what I do know is that you are a very supportive family and would have supported him through this together. Mental mental illness is a dreadful illness that affects so many of us. It’s just learning to ask for help when we are struggling and that can be the hardest thing to do at times. Good luck with your fund raising xx
