I'm fundraising for CALM
I’m walking against suicide.
On Sunday October 25th 2020, I'm taking on the Lost Hours Walk (13 miles) to remember the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, partners and friends lost to suicide.
On average, 125 people take their own lives every week in the UK. 75% of all UK suicides are male.
75% of people who take their own lives are not known to mental health services or have not been in touch with mental health services within the last year.
135 people are directly affected by every suicide.
We’re coming together across the country to send a message that that’s not ok. We’re taking to the streets, parks, pavements, public footpaths and promenades to walk against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably.
Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM’s free, anonymous and confidential helpline and webchat are there for anyone who needs support. They’re open from 5pm-midnight every day. Just £8 is enough to fund a professionally-trained helpline worker to answer a call that could save a life. Your support will help fund CALM’s life-saving services when they’re needed most.
In the five months that have passed since the government announced lockdown in the UK, the CALM helpline has answered 58,347 calls and chats, and directly prevented 222 suicides. That's over 10,000 hours talking to people and 526,070 chat messages exchanged.
