My Updates

Saturday 17th Oct
Hi everyone, just a quick message regarding the walk.

I was in this week for what was meant to be a minor operation on my left knee to tidy up some previous injuries, but during the operation they found a fracture in my knee which needed to be operated on urgently.

Unfortunately, this means I will not be able to participate in the walk as I am on crutches for the next 6-8 weeks. I am absolutely gutted about it, and I’m really sorry I can’t do the walk as I know a lot of you have donated, but I will be doing the walk myself when I am up and running again at the beginning of 2021.

I hope you can still support the team and their cause next week in order to raise mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Why I’m doing the Lost Hours Walk

Saturday 12th Sep

Every week, 125 people in the UK take their own lives. 75% of all UK suicides are male. Regionally, the northeast had the highest number of suicides than any other region in the UK at the end of 2019. These are absolutely shocking statistics to read. CALM exists to change this.

Suicide has affected me and my family over the years. In 2002, we lost my sister Elizabeth (age 23), and my cousin Cal in 2016 (age 27), both tragically to suicide. I will be walking In their memory, but also to the memory of all those people we have tragically lost; sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, partners and friends.

Mental health does not discriminate. It can happen to any gender, any race, and can happen at any age. I am sure many of you have struggled with mental health at some point in your life, maybe even during the COVID-19 lockdown world we are living in right now. We need to normalise that mental health is not a taboo subject, and to create more awareness about it.

I know times are tough at the moment, but any donation you can make would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

And remember, it’s okay to talk, and it’s okay not to be okay. 👌🏼💜💚

***We are going to do the walk local this year due to COVID-19 issues. Hopefully there are no more restrictions put in place after Monday 14th September but I will post updates on this page if anything changes.

We will be walking 26 miles from South Shields through to St James Park - Newcastle. Then finish back at South Shields beach for the sunrise.

It will be during the night of Saturday 24th October, and into the morning of Sunday 25th October.***

Thank you to my Sponsors
