Football Fans United (Against Suicide)

Lost Hours Walk

23.10.20: Why We Are Walking

Tomorrow we take on the challenge of our first walk as part of The Lost Hours Walk. We are walking 20 miles form North to South London.

We hare hoping that by walking we will achieve 3 things:
1. Raise awareness of CALM and the important service they provide.
2.Raise funding to provide support to those who need it at a critical time.
3. Remember those who have been lost to suicide

Thank you to everyone who has supported us.

Thank you for the Donations! Is your club on the list?

We are fundraising for CALM (please see blog below for details).

So far, we have had donations from fans from the following clubs:

Watford FC
Crystal Palace
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Stourbridge FC
Fulham FC
Brighton & Hove Albion
Huddersfield Town
Tooting and Mitcham FC
Worthing FC
Brighton & Hove Albion Women FC
Liverpool FC
Everton FC
AFC Bournemouth
Chelsea FC
Stoke City
Tottenham Hotspur
West Ham
Dartford FC
Gillingham FC
Aston Villa

It would be great to get as many clubs represented as possible, so please spread the word.

We are fundraising for CALM

As Football Fans from different clubs, we are uniting together against suicide in aid of CALM, as part of the Lost Hours Walk.

We are aware of the devastating consequences of suicide. We are passionate that people and their families get the right support at the right time.

We are also  aware that many walkers taking part in the 'Lost Hours Walk' have lost loved ones and we are walking in support of them.

We want the football fans to unite together to support the tremendous work of CALM.

We would like as many Football Clubs as possible represented by fans, either by making donations and raising money for CALM, or even joining our own team and completing their own walk.

On the 24th October 2020, a small groups of us will be walking 20 miles across London, taking in 6 Football grounds (Wembley Stadium, QPR, Fulham FC, AFC Wimbledon's new stadium at Plough Lane, Tooting and Mitcham United and Crystal Palace).

A second walk will take place by some of our team members 2 weeks after the first, from Worthing FC to Brighton and Hove Albion and back approx. 24 miles.

Our team members have personal connections with these clubs. We are fully aware of the positive impact on mental health that being part of your local football community can give an individual. During  difficult times, this sense of belonging and purpose can be invaluable.

Unfortunately we can not invite anyone else on these walks due to social distancing guidelines, but please join us and plan your own route.

Please join the team (use the Join tab) and plan your own route incorporating at least 1 football ground, if possible. It can be any distance and with anyone you like (friends, family etc) but please observe social distancing guidelines.

Don't forget to let us know what team you support and take a photo of any grounds you visit!

Please donate if you can and please add which Football Team you support! It would be great to get donations from supporters from lots of different clubs!

On average, 125 people take their own lives every week in the UK.

75% of people who take their own lives are not known to mental health services or have not been in touch with mental health services within the last year.

135 people are directly affected by every suicide.

We’re coming together across the country to send a message that that’s not ok. We’re taking to the streets, parks, pavements, public footpaths and promenades to walk against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably.

Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM’s free, anonymous and confidential helpline and webchat are there for anyone who needs support. They’re open from 5pm-midnight every day. Just £8 is enough to fund a professionally-trained helpline worker to answer a call that could save a life. Your support will help fund CALM’s life-saving services when they’re needed most.

Please support this cause by donating, so we can reach our goal. Thank you.
