I'm fundraising for CALM

I’m part of #TeamRobbie and we will be walking 26 miles against suicide.

This October when my nephew, Robbie, should be celebrating his 20th birthday, we will be taking on the Lost Hours Walk to deal with grief differently and defiantly, and to remember our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, partners, friends and loved ones lost to suicide.

Here’s why:

On average, 125 people take their own lives every week in the UK.

75% of people who take their own lives are not known to mental health services or have not been in touch with mental health services within the last year.

135 people are directly affected by every suicide.

We’re coming together across the country to send a message that that’s not ok. We’re taking to the streets, parks, pavements, public footpaths and promenades to walk against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably.

Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM’s free, anonymous and confidential helpline and webchat are there for anyone who needs support. They’re open from 5pm-midnight every day. Just £8 is enough to fund a professionally-trained helpline worker to answer a call that could save a life. Your support will help fund CALM’s life-saving services when they’re needed most.

My Updates

We did it!!

Monday 26th Oct
Yesterday we completed our lost hours walk 2020. Today, I’m feeling every single mile of it - my body is broken 😂 I’m feeling high in spirit though and am so proud of myself, each member of #teamrobbie and all those who participated in the #losthourswalk in association with #calmzone. What an experience it was! At times, for me, the road was lonely. At times, I felt pain. At times it was a struggle and there was one point where I felt completely done and was ready to give up. I thought about how people struggling may have feelings like this every single day. Most of all, I thought about Robbie sunshine which gave me a determination to make it to the end!
Once again, thanks to those in our team, to those who shared our posts, to those who supported us and to everyone who donated. We are so very grateful.

1 month to go

Sunday 27th Sep
We have managed to reach our target of raising £2000. Of course, this is a joint effort that we couldn’t have done without your contributions and support! THANK YOU 😊 Although we have reached the amount we had hoped to, it would be amazing to be able to still raise more for this cause and for more people be able to benefit from this. If you can donate, please do so.

I am continuing to go out walking to try and prepare for the big event. The most I have covered in one day is 10 miles. This for me, is good. I never used to be able to even walk a mile without coming out in, what I believe was hives. When it starts, the itch and pain combined with the burning is agony! I sometimes think I am actually allergic to walking 😂
Anyway, I will be continuing to increase this distance from now until I complete The Lost Hours Walk. Wish me luck! xx

Thank You

Congratulations Alana. I found a get well card from Robbie the other day from one time I was in the hospital. Such a kind gesture from a fine young man who was struggling as much or more than I was and I miss him. Well done
